Alex Schlagman of Save The High Street and Andrew Busby of Retail Reflections think there's room for optimism and local government has a key role to play.
The death of the high street has been announced with depressing regularity - at least once a year - for most of the last decade. Goverment has made high profile interventions including a number of enquiries and studies ending with recommendations all without much sign of success.
